THE ROAD WASN’T EASY

I wasn’t always the picture of vibrant health. I didn’t always feel strong, sexy or confident in my own skin. Now that I’ve been plant based for 12 years, people I meet tend to assume that I’ve always looked fit and healthy but that's not the case. I struggled for a long time. I would joke that any “bad” photos of me were eaten by a tiger (because I wouldn’t share them with anyone), but in fact they were just being saved for the right time, so that I could share them with you. By sharing my struggle and journey – I can save you time, frustration, despair and heartache. I can save you from having to walk a similar path and if you are currently on that path, I can help you get off of it for good. Here is a flashback of a solid decade of yo-yo dieting and battling with my weight.

BEFORERIS

I struggled with food for years. I had a raging sweet tooth that always felt out of control. It was difficult for me to have just one cookie or donut; I wanted to have six. I would eat heavier foods like pizza and pasta and feel uncomfortably full and then I would feel bad about myself.

I also struggled with emotional eating, stress eating and binge eating. It was an awful, destructive cycle. My weight continually went up and down. I tried everything from shakes to fad diets to fat burner pills. I’d get some results and lose some weight, but the moment I stopped taking the pills or drinking the shakes, the weight returned. I learned that there was no such thing as a quick fix.  

Another piece of the puzzle was that I didn't know how to fit alcohol into the picture. I mean, I definitely fit it in...I drank enough to kill a small village in my 20's and I don't know how I'm still here, except by the grace of God.  I couldn't moderate alcohol and I tried all the time - for years. It was a HUGE trigger for my eating disorder as it always led to increased appetite, overeating and eating things I wouldn't normally choose. It made me feel like complete garbage the next day. 

I got real with myself. I needed to make some changes.  Something inside me told me that this couldn’t be it. This routine I was in, the way I felt physically from my diet...it just sucked. There had to be a solution. I was sick and tired of being sick and tired. 

After much searching and research…

I DISCOVERED A PLANT BASED LIFESTYLE!

I slowly transitioned to a plant based lifestyle. I was eating as much whole, plant based foods as I wanted, and the weight was disappearing. My energy levels skyrocketed. My seasonal sinus infections disappeared. I felt satiated after eating because my body was getting the nutrition it needed. Plus, the meals I made were so delicious! I was eating more variety of fruits and veggies than I ever had before.

With a history of guilt and shame around food, I need to mentally feel great about what I am eating and with plant based, feeling great is the only option. The stress around food was gone. When I saw the weight coming off easily, I knew I had found the solution.

I tried to hold onto drinking with my plant based lifestyle and it just didn't work for me.  I felt horrible after just 1 glass and I thought, is this even worth it? What am I getting out of this?  Everything else was going so great! I started making non-alcoholic drink swaps and stopped drinking alcohol for good.  

When we make positive, healthy changes in one area of our life, it will spread out into all other areas of our life! As my nutrition improved, my energy improved, and I wanted to keep improving. When we talk about health, we're talking about nutrition, lifestyle, mental health, physical health, stress, our social life - these are all things I help my clients change for the better. 

The other amazing part of a whole food plant based lifestyle is that it’s the only diet that is scientifically proven to reverse and prevent heart disease. I can't even count the number of clients who have been able to significantly lower their cholesterol levels, lose excess weight and get off medications because they made the switch to a plant based diet.  Looking good on the outside is great - we all love that. But looking good on the INSIDE is so incredibly important. Having the health and vitality to thrive in this life is what I wish for all of my clients.

A NEW PATH

Fueled with a new found inspiration and fire, I obtained my certification as a Personal Trainer and became certified in Plant Based Nutrition to help others in the same way that I had been helped. I also became certified in Behavior Change and obtained a Fitness Nutrition Specialization as well as a Nutrition Certification through Precision Nutrition. Through my studies and new healthy habits, I was able to completely change my life. 

I did the hard inner work to shift my mindset and my behaviors to overcome my struggles with food for over ten years, and continue to put in the effort to work towards my new goals. With my own leveled up confidence, I participated in my first ever fitness competition! I also began trying out activities that I never would have thought I was capable of doing… like skydiving and ice climbing, and recently, completing my first half marathon in Newport, RI.  We're not just changing habits here, we're changing our lives!

My passions have influenced my coaching methods and strengths. 

With a background in plant-based nutrition, I’m an ace for vegans or vegetarians, but my open approach and nutrition education allows me to successfully serve clients no matter their dietary preferences. There is zero judgment here.  

I’m passionate about helping others transform and become the absolute best version of themselves and strive to be a Coach who is approachable, judgment-free, and understanding. With each client, I explore various nutrition, mindset and lifestyle goals and help craft a plan to incrementally adjust your behavior. I understand that the journey of getting healthy is one with ups and downs – and that’s normal! I’ll help you discover methods that are sustainable, and share my own tips and tricks along the way.

Living a healthy lifestyle is what helps me to feel sexy, strong and confident in my own skin. My goal is to help everyone quit the crazy fad diets and yo-yo weight cycles and understand what works best for their body and their personal goals. We all deserve to feel amazing in our body and find peace on our plate. We'll do the work to shift your mindset so that food is no longer an issue - because it should be easy! I'll show you how.  Become the very best version of you. Your health is too important to let one more day pass you by.
